Town of Maine Cemetery Gate House 100 Years Old in 2015
The Town of Maine Cemetery’s Gate House marks its 100th Anniversary this year. Designated an Historic Landmark by the City of Park Ridge, the Gate House replaced an earlier building that was destroyed in a fire. The beautiful, chapel-like appearance of the Gate House provides a distinctive home for the Cemetery’s office and workshops. Local artist and sculptor, Alfonso Iannelli, reportedly contributed to the design of the structure. Iannelli is buried in the Cemetery.
The Town of Maine Cemetery Association Board of Trustees launched a long-term project in the Spring of 2014 to restore the Gate House exterior and renovate the interior. The front of the building was restored in June 2014. The rest of the work will be completed as funds become available.
